ovulation

ovulation

The process by which a mature egg (ovum) is released from the ovary and travels down the fallopian tube, where it may be fertilized by a sperm. Ovulation typically occurs once a month in women of reproductive age, and lasts 12-24 hours. It is controlled by the hormones GnRH, FSH, LH, estrogen, and progesterone.
