hypothalamus-pituitary-ovarian axis

A system that regulates production of sex hormones in males and females. It involves an interplay of the hypothalamus, the pituitary gland and the testes in males and ovaries in females, as well as gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinising hormone (LH).
