From the age of 40 onwards, a woman's egg reserve is often severely limited. As a result, the likelihood of pregnancy decreases and the risk of miscarriage increases. The extent of these changes in your case can be accurately assessed with targeted reproductive medical testing.
That is why we at Cada first provide clarity with a fertility analysis or evaluate your existing findings and discuss a suitable course of action with you. In many cases, this involves IVF or ICSI. Genetic testing (PGD) can also increase the chances of pregnancy and reduce the risk of miscarriage. We treat women up to and including the age of 44.
From the age of 40 onwards, three factors in particular determine the chances of a successful pregnancy: the number of eggs, the quality of the eggs and the quality of the sperm.
With increasing age, the number of remaining eggs decreases and thus the chance of a successful natural pregnancy continues to decline.
If you have already tried hormone treatments or inseminations without success.
With increasing age, sperm quality in men also declines, so that determining their quality via a semen analysis is advisable.

Can I still get pregnant at 40 plus?
A natural pregnancy is still possible after the age of 40. However, the chances of conception decrease significantly. For example, at the age of 43, the probability per cycle is less than 5%. We therefore recommend a prompt examination, and often treatment with IVF or ICSI is the next sensible step. PGD can also increase the chances of pregnancy and reduce the risk of miscarriage.
For patients aged 40 and above, clear clarification and a targeted approach are essential. We recommend the path that best suits your individual situation.
Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT)
:quality(75))
From the age of 40 onwards, the risk of miscarriage rises to over 40%. With PGT-A, a genetically normal embryo can be selected if medically indicated, reducing the risk of miscarriage to approximately 10%.
We support many patients between the ages of 40 and 44 and are prepared to deal with complex findings and previous treatments.
Our positive pregnancy rates per cycle and patient are among the highest of fertility clinics in Switzerland and Europe.
With our own IVF laboratory and state-of-the-art technological equipment, we create the ideal conditions for successful treatment.
Family Planning

If there are any well-developed embryos left over after IVF or ICSI, we can cryopreserve and store them. This means you can keep this option open for future children. Frozen embryo transfer is a minimally invasive procedure that can be done on an outpatient basis.

If you are 40 years of age or older, it is worth arranging an appointment at an early stage, even if you have only recently started trying to conceive. This will help us avoid unnecessary detours and enable us to assess more quickly which steps are realistic and sensible for you.
We always examine both partners, as the causes are often complementary. In women, we examine the egg reserve using ultrasound and relevant blood values. If necessary, we also check the patency of the fallopian tubes. In men, the examination is carried out using a current semen analysis and, depending on the findings, we supplement this with further examinations.
From the age of 40 onwards, the proportion of eggs with chromosomal abnormalities increases. This leads to a higher incidence of embryos that do not develop stably, and the risk of miscarriage increases. This is precisely why, from the age of 40 onwards, we also discuss genetic testing (PGD), which can help to reduce the risk.
Yes. We treat women up to and including the age of 44. After that, treatment with the patient's own eggs is generally not very promising, so treatment is not usually offered.
At Cada, we typically transfer only one embryo, which significantly reduces the risk of multiple pregnancies to less than 1%. In rare cases, the transferred embryo may split, leading to identical twins.
In Switzerland, there is no uniform legal age limit for IVF treatments. The decision is therefore usually at the discretion of the specialist treating the patient at the respective fertility clinic.
The entire IVF process spans several weeks. Following 2-3 weeks of medication and hormonal stimulation, egg retrieval is conducted, which lasts about 20-30 minutes. Post-fertilisation, embryos develop for 3-5 days before being transferred. A pregnancy test is then performed 14 days after the embryo transfer. The total duration can vary depending on individual responses to treatment.
During a free initial consultation, we take the time to comprehend your needs and offer informed advice on your available options.
